Event Description

What: Valentine's Day Redwood forest & Wine Castle Ramble.

When: Sunday, February 14, 2010 10:00 AM

Where: Northern Napa Valley near Calistoga.

Don't have a special Valentine?? Or maybe you do. Whatever the case; this outing is always loved by everyone who has experienced it.

Where is it? This The super forest is near Calistoga. (not to be missed Castle) is high up over looking the valley. (Super enchanting views)

This Outing starts at a creekside bridge location and very gradually takes us up & over several creek crossings. (You will probably get wet). So bring extra socks & shoes for the castle.

This is the farthest Eastern grove of redwoods in California. The forest is gleaming in neon green. Many mini Falls. Mushrooms galore. Hopefully the Lady Bug Convention will still be there. In one location only. Coyote peak is the first summit at 1150 ft. An optional 2000 ft. side trail will be voted on. (It's not difficult). The second half of this trek is all down hill & partly level. and is 4.5 miles R.T. 6.2 miles with 2000 ft. option.
This hike is rated at Upper Easy to slightly Moderate. Hiking sticks are provided for the creek crossings & are recommended. Cameras are recommended.

This is not a rush through trek. Why leave such beauty quickly?

Hike start time: 10:00-10:15 am.
Finish time: 2:30-2:45 pm. Picnic lunch break either at private lakeside setting or mountainside valley view location.
Castle ramble (mini tour) and wine tasting (option) after lunch. 3:30-3:45. Leave castle 4:30-5:00 pm.

Hike fee: 15.00 includes water, trail/energy bars, snak paks, hiking sticks & mini castle tour. The Castle wine tasting fees are extra at 16.00 & include 5 tastings in a private castle area (8 minimum for a room).

Car pooling is available from the East Bay at the same location in Martinez.
Hwy 4 west exit at Center st. Turn left over frwy to light & turn right & a quick left into Carrows restaurant parking lot next to Starbucks. PARK in the front area of Carrows.

CARPOOL meet time is: 8:55 am. We will leave the lot by 9:10 am. You can follow us from here if we are full.
