Want to learn tango and meet singles who have a common interest in learning to dance tango? If so, here's an opportunity. I organized a Tango mixer at Tango By the River, a great venue for Argentine tango.

About 30-50 tango dancers generally attend the party already so we would be joining an existing group. The party includes:

* A tango lesson for beginners.
* Generous party snacks: bread, cheese, lunch meat, fruit, dessert, water, punch.
* Permission to bring your favorite beverage (beer or wine OK)
* A beautiful hardwood floor for dancing
* Authentic Argentine tango music. (It grows on you!)
* Tango dancing until about midnight.

People who learn to tango generally become really passionate about it; it even becomes a way of life for some! Some become a little too extreme in this regard I think. But tango is still a positive addition I believe.

I've been dancing and teaching tango for more than 10 years and know how much fun it is and how much joy it can add to ones life. So my goal is to share it with at least 10 ProGuildSocial members, first in the Sacramento area, and then, if this works, in the Bay Area. Here's a very interesting video about tango in the Bay Area.

The cost for the lesson and party is normally $15 (or $20 if there is a guest teacher) . By special arrangements with Tango by the River, however, I can get you in for $10.50 (or $15.50 if the regular price is $20).

My goal is to bring 10 to 20 people to the party (with a nice balance of men and women. Ideally 5 men and 5 women or perhaps 10 men and 10 women.

Street parking is a bit of a challenge, but there is nearby public parking for just $5 for the evening.

Tango By the River has parties on the second and fourth Saturday of the month.

I met my goal of bringing 20 people to the party and heard some nice comments from several ladies who enjoyed this event inspite of the fact that we didn't have as many men as women. Once the word gets out that a lot of ladies are attending, I wonder ... will more men come?

Tango by the River was very happy to see so many newcomers to tango at their event. Everyone I talked to seem to really enjoy this event. If you attended the party, please comment. Should we do it again? We got $5 off the normal price at the door and all proceeds went to Tango by the River.

Nancy, I think there is a movie with that title. But this event was actually a tango dance party. We made our own movie! There was a very nice introductory dance lesson and everyone was dancing around the venue, which had a lovely hardwood floor. Some of our members even participated in a tango dance contest and won a free pass to a future party! Some brought their own wine and there was also punch and food provided. Dancing went to until past midnight.

I would love to learn the Tango! I would be interested if it is in the Bay Area! I think I can get some men to come as well!

Gloria,

Great! I'll look into organizing a tango event in the Bay Area, too. We did have a tango band and some tango dancing in San Francisco at the Golden Gate Yacht club.

Tango events, however, are not designed to bringing a huge crowd of singles. But at a tango event you can expect a select group who are really interested in learning tango, not just drinking mingling, meeting new people, and dancing free style.

Tango fanatics people love tango because it can involve a heart-to-heart connection on the dance.
