A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott. I really liked
this book. Lately I've been reading a lot of novels by female
authors. It helps me understand women. :) Take this passage for
example:
"Surprise and emotion left Rosamond no power to answer for a
moment. The delicate generosity and respect of the offer touched
her to the heart. Putting aside all he could give, rank, wealth
protection, honor, and with no hint of her poverty, friendliness or
shadow on his life, he had offered the one gift made both equal,
his love, and sued for hers as humbly as if she were a princess of
the land. Such things win women..."
This book is especially interesting to me because it was never
published in the author's life time. It was rejected, apparently
because it was too sensational and outrageous at the time (1866).
It lay buried for more than 100 years, but was then discovered and
published in 1995 and became a New York Times Bestseller. Note: you

TIP: when you get to the
Amazon website, you can search for a phrase like say "Such
things win women." and then you read a new pages of the book to
check it out.
NOTE: Louisa May also wrote the famous and hugely successful
Little Women two years after writing A Long Fatal Love
Chase.
