Three years Amazon started to make a new portable device for wirelessly downloading books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers.
The result: the Amazon Kindle.
I'm looking forward to trying it out. Amazon claims that thanks to electronic paper (a new technology) reading Kindle’s screen is natural as reading ink on paper.

There are quite few books available for download I understand. If I think of a book I want to read I can probably download it right away.
I've been reading a lot of novels lately and find there are plenty of words in these books that I really don't know the meaning of. Words like, say, "lorgnette" from
A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott. So I like the ability to instantly look up the meaning of a word and to have a book read aloud to me. Does it come with an earphone jack I wonder?
Amazon says they wanted to make it mobile and easy to use so they made it wireless with no PC or syncing needed. There are no service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills.
Kindle will let me download and read the beginning of books for free. All newspaper subscriptions start with a two-week trial.
